Mideast
Peace Agreement to be Signed in Washington…?
by
Gary Kah
This November
the United States will be hosting what could be the most significant
“World Peace Summit” in history. The series of
meetings are scheduled to take place in Maryland, just outside
our nation’s capitol. The main purpose is a) to get
Israel’s government and the Palestinian Authority (PA)
to agree on dividing Israel into two separate states (nations)
– one for the Palestinians and one for the Jews; b)
to get Israel’s leaders to agree to give up a large
portion of Jerusalem, which will become the capitol of the
newly created Palestinian state; and c) to somehow facilitate
world peace through this process.
These efforts represent “the beginning of the final
push” for a comprehensive Mideast peace agreement and
are part of President Bush’s “Roadmap for Peace”
initiative. The current agreement, being brokered by the United
States (at least publicly), has been carefully drafted while
US diplomats have consulted behind the scenes with some of
Israel’s greatest adversaries. At
the writing of this article, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert of
Israel and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas are
both planning to be at the Washington summit. In fact, both
men have been engaged in private pre-summit negotiations for
several months.
As early as last July, PM Olmert released millions of dollars
of frozen tax money into the Palestinian Authority’s
coffers, and agreed to free 250 jailed Palestinian terrorists.
According to Israel Today, Olmert said it is worth risking
the lives of his fellow Jews in order to gain the diplomatic
benefits he believes will accompany those “goodwill
gestures.” Yet, previous decisions of this type have
resulted in sharp increases in terrorist acts against Israel’s
citizens.
On a similar front, Olmert has taken no action against thousands
of Palestinians living in illegal outposts in the West Bank
and Jerusalem. On August 3, WorldNetDaily revealed that,
…the
city of Jerusalem, under orders from Olmert, deleted files
documenting hundreds of illegal Arab building projects throughout
eastern sections of Jerusalem housing tens of thousands
of Palestinians, according to a report by the Jerusalem
Forum, which promotes Jewish construction in the city. Aryeh
King, chairman of the Jerusalem Forum, said Jerusalem municipal
workers told him they were instructed by Olmert’s
office to ignore illegal Palestinian construction in Jerusalem.
“Ehud Olmert gave the order not to deal with the problem
and not to put Israeli security forces to the duty of taking
down the illegal Arab complexes,” said King. “Senior
municipal workers told me Olmert said not to bother with
the illegal Arab homes because eventually eastern Jerusalem
would be given to the Palestinian Authority.”
It
seems that Olmert has resigned himself to the fact that a
major part of Jerusalem will be handed over. He is obviously
receiving a lot of diplomatic pressure from his Arab neighbors
as well as the UN, the Vatican and the United States. In fact,
late last summer the US cut its aid to Israel by several hundred
million dollars right when she needed it most. And, in our
spring issue we documented the Vatican’s subtle, yet
forceful actions in the “Old City” to prepare
the way for East Jerusalem’s handover. All of these
pressures have worked together to force Israel to the bargaining
table.
Along with considering how the US-backed agreement will negatively
impact Israel, my concern as an American is what might befall
our country for forcing such a compromise on Israel. If Olmert
signs this treaty, and Israel is carved up due to our President’s
efforts, God’s judgment will certainly fall! We need
only look at our summer of hurricanes in 2005 – after
we forced Jews out of Gaza – to see the consequences
of messing with Israel.
But what if Israel suddenly refuses to sign the accord, realizing
it would undermine her ability to defend herself? In such
a circumstance there would be near certainty of war. Israel’s
enemies are poised to attack if Jewish leaders back out at
the eleventh hour.
On the other hand, the PA could back out if it doesn’t
get absolutely everything it wants. This could likewise precipitate
an attack by radical Muslims united in their hatred against
Israel. Most radicals do not want to reach an agreement, they
simply want to destroy Israel altogether. Unfortunately, I
see nothing good resulting from Washington’s attempts
to forge a deal.
On a related front, the secular media has given little coverage
to the current stand off between Israel and Syria. Syria’s
President Bashar Assad has refused to come to Washington for
the talks unless the Golan Heights is on the negotiating table.
Syria has been placing intense military pressure on Israel
for months, hoping to force Israel to surrender the Golan.
It has done everything possible since last spring to provoke
a war with Israel, even constructing a massive missile array
aimed at Israel on the portion of the Golan Heights it still
controls!
Finally, in September Israel launched a secret pre-emptive
strike on Syria, aimed at destroying nuclear-related equipment
it had obtained from North Korea, via Iran. The successful
attack was only recently confirmed by Israeli Air Force officials.
Israel’s political leaders, with few exceptions, have
refused to publicly comment on the matter.
The following news items reflect the mounting pressure the
Jewish nation is receiving from its Islamic adversaries to
give up East Jerusalem. These developments are of biblical
significance and are a clear sign of the times. Should God
not intervene, things could begin moving forward quickly from
this point on.
Isaiah had this to say concerning Damascus, the capitol of
Syria. “Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a
city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.” (Isaiah 17:1)
This prophecy is still awaiting fulfillment. As things stand,
Damascus is the oldest major city in the world that has never
experienced mass destruction. Some time between now and the
return of Jesus, this city will be destroyed. The November
summit, depending on its outcome, could help set the stage.
If you have a copy of my first book, En Route to Global Occupation,
this would be a good time to re-read chapter seven –
The Coming World Crisis.
